Junghee HONG B.1945

JUNG HEE HONG is the leading female artist that bridges the modern and contemporary Korean art. After she completed her bachelor and master degree at Seoul National University, she has been actively exhibiting her works on the world stage. And an autonomy of her painting, which features full variety of bold saturated colors, is manifested the most in the presence of color. She puts the greatest emphasis on materiality of color and composes a generative screen, which has intensified its presence of the screen, and it led to expand the possibility of painting. In particular, her “Nano” series, is referred as to the quintessential among all of her abstract painting works during her 50 years of career, which is characterized by simplified formal beauty and intensely condensed depth of color. As referred to as the alchemist of color, she presents creative and amplifying energy, which is the power of new creation that is freely condensed and expansion. Her works are permanently collected by the renowned exhibition spaces including the Art Museum of the University of Michigan, the City Hall of Lincoln, British Museum, Dubai Museum, MMCA, SeMA, and etc.

Sukyoung KANG B.1949

He is a maestro in the craft art world in Korea. He majored in pottery at Hongik University and Graduate School, and studied pottery at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers. After returning to Korea, he served as a dean of Ewha Women's University's College of Formative Arts and a director of the Pottery Institute for 30 years, working hard to study and foster younger students. Ironically, from ‘Slip Casting Technique’, which was considered to lower the value of the work because of its main use in industrial works that were easy to reproduce, he implemented his own production method that maximizes aesthetic intuition. Rather like removing the fancy technique and extracting the source point that reaches infinite formability, his work converges to white, the purest achromatic color. The ‘culture of texture’, which should be dealt with mainly in pottery in particular, the cultural characteristics expressed in texture in other words, the Korean aesthetics is fully captured in his work. His work, deeply melted in ‘Korean white beauty’, has already been recognized internationally for its formativeness. Since 2003 his work has been permanently owned and displayed at the International Pottery Olympic Park in Athens, Greece, and is recently selected as one who displays his work on the external walls of the SeMoCA, which opened in Korea as the first museum specialized in craft art. And his work has been owned by leading domestic institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) and major overseas museums such as the Royal Albert Museum and the Brooklyn Museum.

Youngkyun LIM B.1955

He was born in Daegu. After completing his B.F.A at Chung-Ang University, he studied in International Center of Photography (I.C.P), and received M.F.A at New York University, New York. He started his career with the Grand Priz in 1973 at Photo Contest for High School Students granted by Korea Photography Association and was awarded Top 10 Photographers nominated by Smithsonian American Art Museum, and held the invitational exhibition < Portrait of Nam June Paik>at the British Museum, London. Recently, he had the honor of exhibiting his work invited as the only Asian artist in the< History of Photography>at Eastman Museum, NY. He used to teach in New York University and Chung-Ang University and his works are owned by renowned museums over the world including MOMA in New York, International Center of Photography (I.C.P), Eastman Museum, Munster and Oldenberg museums in Germany, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, and etc. His publications are “Destiny” (published by Munster museum), “Daily Life Landscapes” (published by Youlhwadang), “Portrait of Artist” (published by Ahn Graphics Publishing Co,.),”Young Kyun Lim, Art Vivant”, (published by Sikongsa Publishing Co), “Nam Jun Paik, Now Here” (published by 2GIL29 GALLERY), “Artist’s Eyes“(published by 2GIL29GALLERY),and so on.

Jaeeun JEON B.1972

She graduated from Sookmyung Women's University and the graduate school as a painting major and actively showed her work domestically and internationally through exhibitions. She draws with needles and threads instead of common drawing material and provides a new perspective on color and space, which is a formative element. she explores beauty of painting considering the division and proportion of faces, creates minimal units in the form of modules, and proceeds through combination and deformation. Her sewing works are about building time and accumulating memories, and it is a process of shaping through continuous and repetitive work of revealing and concealing the accumulated inner experience in her memory. In particular, she re-edits a constructed space containing personal memories and experiences, giving it a new spatiality, and showing the artist's imagination and inner reason. Recently, she was acclaimed in the exhibition <Lieux Priés> at 2GIL29 GALLERY in 2020, leading viewers to a place of memories of her own and letting them to evoke their own memories and is invited as the special guest artist by Cheongju Craft Biennale 2021.

Yujin HUH B.1978

Yujin Huh (b. 1978) majored western painting at Hongik University and graduate school. She has been dedicated to in-depth experiments on light and color, which are reflected through transparent object, by dealing with the everyday object such as a glass bottle, and practicing basic of painting with unparalleled finesse in technique of painting on canvas. She is one of the female artists, who has a strong position in Korean contemporary art, creating inimitable world of her own, which features perfect pictorial depiction with reflection of her inner emotions. Particularly, in the exhibition < Plastic Diamond > curated by 2GIL29GALLERY in 2021, she focuses more on a scape created by light and color that is enhanced through reflection and refraction. And her recent works, which deal with diamonds as the main subject, viewed in the exhibition received a good response in that they show further developed study on a matter of material and exploration of the genre of painting.

MY Q B.1981

He was born in Seoul. His passion for music, which is attributed to his diverse experiences on multi-culture earned from long years of living abroad, made him walk away from his study at Keele University in Staffordshire. He established the independent label ‘Que Station’ in the same year of releasing the first full-length album, ‘Style Music’, under the name of My Q in 2007, and until now he has been loved while releasing 8 albums, 4 EP albums and 54 single albums (184 songs). And he has consolidated his position as the multi-disciplinary artist while demonstrating potentials, holding a series of art projects and exhibitions including <미술관이 닫은 후> at SeMA in 2015, < Mike:마이큐>at D-PROJECT SPACE in 2018, and <What are you doing the rest of your life> at 2GIL29 GALLERY, which was the first exhibition with his canvas painting works in 2021.These days, he is actively working on creative works in all directions ranging from commercial projects with numerous corporations, fashion magazine, music festival, campaign and etc.

QWAYA B.1991

He studied Fashion design at Sangmyung University. Artist did not receive a formal academic education in painting, but his unique world of work with unpolished free-spirited brushstrokes is loved by public, making him one of the most notable emerging artists in the Korean art scene. He gives a new perspective on everyday life that  is normally disparaged to be worthless because it is common and repetitive. Especially, in the exhibition <Ordinary People> at 2GIL29 GALLERY, which received a great response from critics and the public, he showed works that stimulated viewers’ thoughts through characters with dreamy expressions, and those works were reminiscent of a phrase of Paul Klee about the spirit of art. “Art does not reproduce the visible but makes visible.” He continues his work bringing us to the world of contemplation, broadening the limits of contemporary art, which lets us meet art in daily life.
